For a while now, the AMIDuOS emulator has been providing some pretty solid Android environment emulation on Windows computers and tablets. The software supported KitKat officially, and has been in Lollipop beta for quite some time. Well, now, its Android 5 emulation is finally official and available for use by anyone!
AMIDuOS is a paid software ($15), but you can test it out for 30 days for no cash. The installation has a couple of tricky steps, but is in absolutely no way rocket science. Once you're done, you will be able to dual-boot Android with a fully operational Play Store on your Windows 7 / 8 / 10 PC or tablet. In our experience, the software may have some issues running the heavier apps, but hey - we were able to play Vainglory on a laptop! Here's how to do it:
How to install Android 5 Lollipop on PC, laptop, or Windows tablet
1. Download and install AMIDuOS
As mentioned, you will need AMIDuOS. Here's its official webpage, and here is the official download link
2. (optional) Enable Virtualization
Upon installing it, AMIDuOS might prompt you about enabling Virtualization Technology from your system's BIOS setup. While the program states it's not necessary, we found that it certainly makes it run much more reliable. To enter your BIOS setup, you need to reboot your PC and press F10, or Del, or Escape (depends on your system) during the boot sequence. Then, look for the Virtualization option somewhere in the System or CPU settings
3. Download gapps (Google Apps) package
Now that you are back in Windows and have AMIDuOS installed, you will need to download the gapps (Google Apps) package - link here. Basically, without it, AMIDuOS will run, but you will have no Google Play Store. Place the downloaded archive anywhere you wish
4. Launch AMIDuOS
Launching AMIDuOS will greet you with a standard Android loading screen and then, this lockscreen. Basically, you currently have Android running on your machine. Cool, huh?
5. Apply gapps to AMIDuOS
So, let's add Play Store to it! Alt-tab out of AMIDuOS (do not close it!) and find that gapps file that you downloaded. Right-click on it and choose "Apply to DuOS". This will begin "sideloading" the package on the emulated Android. AMIDuOS will restart automatically
Once you are back in the program, you will see the usual Google installation process - you will be asked to log in with your Google account, choose a language, et cetera. Once done, you will have the Google apps available to you. We went straight in the Play Store and downloaded Vainglory! Neat, huh?
