Xiaomi's founder and CEO Lei Jun took to Weibo recently to throw in some wisdom on why will the company take its time to release the next Xiaomi flagship, dubbed tentatively the Mi5.
It turns out that Xiaomi strives for about 18 months between onе flagship and the next. This is more than the usual upgrade timeframe of the bigwigs like Samsung or Apple, but Lei Jun noted that the company would go through 5 or 6 prototypes during that time, until it reaches a satisfactory final retail unit.
As if to prove that point, he snapped a bunch of pre-production prototypes that have been sent his way for final approval, and, as you can see, there are boxes full of about 30 phones that are all iterations of the Mi Note,Mi4, Mi3, Redmi 2, Redmi Note, Redmi 1S, and so on. Pretty cool, but, unfortunately, this 18-month upgrade cycle means that we might not be seeing the Mi5 before the holiday quarter.
