Samsung is reportedly working on a major firmware update for its Gear S2 smartwatch. There is no indication Samsung is going to launch a successor of the Gear S2 at the upcoming IFA in the fall, so there is a good chance Samsung instead upgrade its capabilities.
As the rumor has it, the new update will allow custom wallpapers for the watch faces. A dedicated section with watch face recommendations should become available and you will be able to install the new faces right from the watch, no need of opening the Manager app on the phone.
The Gear S2's new firmware will also expand its fitness tracking capabilities and yes, Sleep Monitor is finally coming. The update will also allow for sharing the fitness stats on Facebook.
Better notification management and updated Weather app will be part of the update.
Finally, the S-Voice integration will be enhanced and you will be able to do more with your voice like starting or ending times.
If true, it seems Samsung is indeed looking after its Gear S2 and won't be dropping its support anytime soon. Here is hoping this new update will also bring the long awaited iOS support, which is quite overdue already.
