Research firm Witsview has published a new report which shows that Samsung had a good year in 2014 as far as its position in the global LCD TV market is concerned. The company accounted for 22.8 percent of all LCD TV shipments across the world, registering an year-over-year increase of 14.5 percent. Its native rival LG came second with 14.9 percent of the global market share. As a whole LCD shipments in 2014 grew by 5.4 percent as more than 215 million units were shipped.

Sony came in third place with 6.8 percent of the market share, climbing up from fourth position in 2013. The remaining positions in the top 10 list are taken primarily be Chinese manufacturers like TCL, Konka, Hisense and Skyworth.

At the International Consumer Electronics Show 2015 in Las Vegas Samsung unveiled its new SUHD TVs, touted its Quantum Dot technology and even showed off full-array local dimming for the JS9500 TV series. Samsung’s reason for success in 2014 is said to be its successful strategy of pricing large-screen television sets competitively as opposed to market rivals.
