Samsung claims its Exynos 7420 is 30-35% more power efficient compared to 20nm SoCs

    It’s no secret that the upcoming Exynos 7420 is a powerhouse. Preliminary and leaked benchmark scores of the SoC have pointed at an SoC that’s pretty much unparalleled in terms of performance, save for the top-of-the-line Qualcomm — the Snapdragon 810 — up to an extent. The octa-core CPU that the SoC houses, along with the Mali-T760 graphics chip present on the 14nm SoC give it the grunt we talk about. What one often ignores (that is, until you start experiencing battery problems) is the power efficiency of an SoC. Samsung, though, wants to keep its existing and to-be users updated in that regard.

    The company claims that its Exynos 7420 will be 30 to 35% more power efficient compared to ‘older’ chipsets that make use of the 20nm manufacturing process. Given that the chip will be used on ‘a variety of products this year’ (many of which shouldn’t be tough to guess), Samsung is certainly heading in the right direction, or so we feel. What do you think?
